The Namibian Roads Authority has announced the renaming of the B9 highway, linking Windhoek to Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH), as the Dr Hage Geingob Freeway. This decision pays tribute to Namibia's third president, who passed away in February 2024.

Dr Geingob, who served as president from 2015 until his death, played a pivotal role in Namibian politics, including two terms as prime minister. His political career spanned over three decades, marking significant milestones in the country's post-independence era.

The 45-km dual carriageway, currently under construction, is set to drastically reduce travel time between WDH and Windhoek's CBD from 45 to 25 minutes. The project, initiated in 2016, has progressed through multiple phases and is slated for completion by November 2024.

This renaming not only commemorates Dr Geingob's legacy but also highlights the importance of infrastructure development in Namibia's growing economy. The improved road link is expected to enhance connectivity and boost tourism in the region.
