Kenya Airways is set to boost its service capacity in Southern and Central Africa due to increasing passenger demand. The Nairobi-based airline will deploy Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on key routes, including Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Starting in August, flights to Johannesburg will be increased to five per week, using the high-capacity Dreamliner. The Cape Town route will also be upgraded from the Embraer 190 to the Dreamliner, enhancing the flight experience for passengers.

Currently, Kenya Airways operates 26 weekly flights to Johannesburg and three nonstop flights to Cape Town, with a stopover in Livingstone, Zambia. The airline will also introduce direct flights to Douala, Cameroon from 11 August, eliminating the previous stopover and streamlining travel.

Martin Gitonga, Head of Network Planning and Alliances, highlighted these changes as part of the airline’s strategy to adapt to evolving market needs. Additionally, from 1 July 2024, Kenya Airways will operate daily flights to Dar es Salaam, and from 1 August, all flights to Cape Town will use the Dreamliner.
